"(The) house was perfect, whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or storytelling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all."

From "The Hobbit"
by J.R.R. Tolkien

Welcome to Rivendell House Bed and Breakfast, located in the beautiful village of Bethel in the western mountain region of Maine. Whether you come for skiing or hiking, to visit your child at Gould Academy, to take courses with NTL, or just to get a brief respite from your busy life, Rivendell House offers you a home away from home.

Conveniently located just a few minutes walk to shops and restaurants, the house is just 10 minutes by car from Sunday River and Mt Abram ski areas. Some of the most scenic areas in the White Mountains and the Mahoosuc Range are nearby, and the Androscoggin River with its fishing and kayaking opportunities flows right through Bethel.

Though the house is over 150 years old, it has been renovated with an eye to keeping its original charm while being updated with modern private bathrooms, separate heating zones for each bedroom, and provides a high-speed wireless network (if you really must work while you are here!)

Rivendell House is a true bed-and-breakfast lodging.  We have been welcoming guests to our home for 13 years now and enjoy providing this place of refuge and relaxation for you every bit as much as we did when we first started. Our guests open new windows on the world for us and bring us so much pleasure.  We hope to make your stay with us very special indeed.

We especially look forward to preparing a real, full country breakfast for you, featuring local and organic foods. We can easily accommodate special dietary needs. You might like to check out the Rivendell House Breakfast page.
